The All-Important First Visit
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
The main purpose of your first visit is a comprehensive dental evaluation. This involves both a visual check by one of our experienced dentists and a full-mouth X-ray series to give us an overview of your current oral health. At Allred Family Dentistry, we use digital X-rays for a number of reasons. They emit less radiation compared with traditional X-rays and instantly provide clearer images. An additional benefit of using digital X-rays is that we can show you these images in real time while we perform the evaluation.
Your initial evaluation will also include panoramic imaging and intraoral photographs. Together, these images provide us with a baseline, allowing us to easily detect any future changes so you can receive prompt treatment and enjoy a healthy smile.
Periodontal Checks and Teeth Cleaning
TAILORED TREATMENT JUST FOR YOU
We conduct periodontal probing at your first appointment to check your gum health and screen for any underlying periodontal disease. If we detect disease, and you need periodontal treatment such as scaling and root planing, we will set this up for a separate appointment. Otherwise, we can usually proceed with a regular professional cleaning.
An important part of your first visit is also discussing your oral health and any concerns you have with your teeth and gums. We’ll also present you with the results of your evaluation, recommend appropriate treatment to help you reach your goals, and offer a financial consultation to discuss associated treatment costs and estimated dental insurance coverage (if applicable).
Your first appointment is likely to be around 90 minutes. However, you can expect subsequent preventive appointments to last around an hour.
